A double-decker sleeper bus travelling from Bihar to Delhi fell off the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near milestone 103 in the Saifai area of Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh, early Thursday morning. The accident resulted in the death of two passengers and injuries to over 50 others. The bus was carrying around 80 people at the time of the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Sayeeda Khatoon, a woman from Nepal, and Manoj Kumar (55), a resident of Darbhanga in Bihar. Injured passengers were rescued and transported to Saifai Medical College for treatment. A medical team is attending to all those admitted, and officials confirmed that necessary treatment is being provided.
According to preliminary information, the bus went off the expressway and fell down from an elevated section near Saifai. It is suspected that the driver may have fallen asleep, leading to loss of control. No official confirmation on mechanical failure or weather-related issues has been provided. The bus was en route to Delhi from Bihar when the incident occurred.
Rescue operations were carried out by local police, and senior district officials, including the Etawah District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, visited the site to monitor the situation.
